Christmas Sugar Cookie Recipe
1 1/2 sticks (3/4 cups) salted butter
2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour and salt; set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed.
Add the egg and vanilla extract, beat until well mixed.
Add flour mixture, beat on low speed just until combined.
Gather dough into a ball. Flatten the ball into a disk and wrap tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate 1 hour.
On a floured surface, roll out dough to a 1/4-inch thickness. With cookie cutters, cut dough into desired shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheets. If desired decorate with colored or sprinkles.
Bake for 13-15 minutes, do not brown.
Immediately transfer to cooling surface.
If decorating with icing, wait until cookies are completely cool.

Makes 36 cookies. This sugar cookie recipe is traditional with a delicious taste, and great to use with cookie cutters.


Peanut Blossoms Recipe

1 bag (8oz) Hershey's Kisses
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp milk
3/4 cup peanut butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
1/2 cup shortening
additional granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda

Heat oven to 375F. Remove candy wrappers.
In large bowl, beat shortening and peanut butter until well blended. Add the 1/3 cup of granulated sugar and all of the brown sugar; beat until light and fluffy. Add egg, milk and vanilla; beat well. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to peanut butter mixture. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in the additional granulated sugar; place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately place kiss on
top of each cookie, pressing down so cookie cracks around edges. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.


Chocolate Pecan Malted Cookies

2 C. butter-flavored shortening
2 1/2 C. packed light brown sugar
1 C. chocolate malted milk powder
4 T. chocolate syrup
2 T. vanilla extract
2 eggs
4 C. flour
2 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
3 C. semisweet chocolate chips
2 C. milk chocolate chips
2 C. chopped pecans

Combine shortening, brown sugar, malted milk powder, chocolate syrup and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl. Beat for 2 minutes. Add eggs and beat for 1 minute. Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Gradually add to creamed mixture, mixing well after each addition. Stir in chocolate chips and pecans.
Shape into 2-inch balls and place about 3-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375°F. for about 10 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes on baking sheets before moving to wire racks.
Makes about 3 1/2 dozen cookies.


Butter Cookies Recipe

1 t baking powder
1/2 tsp orange extract
1 c butter
1 c sugar
3 c sifted flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 c orange juice
1/2 tsp baking soda

Cream butter until very light. Add sugar gradually and continue creaming until light and fluffy.
Add orange juice and extract.

Sift together flour, salt, soda and powder. Add to creamed mixture bit by bit.
When well mixed, cover bowl with plastic wrap and chill at least 1 hour (or overnight) in the refrigerator.

Roll out on floured surface and cut with cookie cutters. Brush lightly with water and add colored sprinkles if desired.
Place on ungreased cookie sheets or use baking parchment (easiest) and bake at 350 degrees F for about 13 minutes or until delicately brown. Cool before storing.
